KaBOOM! Update
First, THANK YOU. We really appreciate you, the Berwyn residents for your support. Thank you for your unwavering patronage and enthusiasm during the many months of so much uncertainty in our world. The purpose of this announcement is to provide you an update on the replacement playground planned for Freedom Park.

Prior to the pandemic, the Berwyn Park District had submitted an application for a KaBOOM! Grant for a new playground at Freedom Park. This is a nation-wide grant funded by sponsors with a rigorous and selective process – and they chose US, Berwyn! KaBoom! grants provide the facilitation and support of an experienced Project Manager as community members embark on a 5–12 week planning process. All partners join together for a community “Design Day”, inviting play experts (the kids, of course) to design their dream play space which is followed by a one day “Build Day”. This is a very interactive process bringing many adults and children together in collaboration.

Due to the current status of the COVID19 pandemic, the Kaboom! Project at Freedom Park has been postponed by our sponsors. Please notice the word postponed. It is so important to note that for safety reasons, our partners want to be very careful of the moment we move forward on this project so we may all remain safe while conducting planning meetings and work group efforts, and honestly, keeping the residents of Berwyn safe has been a top priority of the Berwyn Park District since March of 2020. We are now in a bit of a holding pattern regarding our KaBOOM! Project and we would like you all to know and support this ongoing partnership while keeping our general public and Berwyn neighbors safe. KaBOOM! feels this is best for all involved in this project to pause for 2021 and we support them. We all remain optimistic that as COVID-19 cases decline and additional populations (like children) get vaccinated, this project will pick back up in the near future.

With that in mind, we certainly want to keep our momentum going and give you the opportunity to stay connected to us and to the project. If you would like to be included in future KaBOOM! meetings and opportunities regarding this new playground, please email: Kaboom@berwynparks.org.
