The Berwyn Park District is pleased to announce the hiring of a new Executive Director, Sandy Fejt. Prior to coming to the Berwyn Park District, Sandy worked for the Forest Preserve District of DuPage county for over 23 years, the last 15 years as the Manager of Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation of Willowbrook Wildlife Center, in Glen Ellyn. While at Willowbrook Wildlife Center, she handled the overall strategic and day-to-day operations of this nationally renowned wildlife rehabilitation and education center which included an annual operating budget totaling over a $1 million. She oversaw the development of the site’s master plan, including the strategic and marketing plan goals and objectives, as well as the business plan development. She worked closely with both state and federal agencies.
Prior to working for the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, Sandy worked for 14 years in the real estate property management business. She had volunteered for DuPage County for 8 years as a volunteer interpreter and 12 years of volunteer interpreter experience with Brookfield Zoo. She is currently volunteering for the PTSA of Freedom Middle School, serving as its President.
Sandy is a graduate of Elmhurst College with a major in Geography and a minor in Urban Studies, earned a Master’s Certificate in Leadership from North Central College in Naperville and was also in the first graduating class of the Morton Arboretum’s Naturalist Certificate Program. She has lived in Berwyn for 33 years with her husband, Robert and their 13-year old daughter, Lauren. Sandy has served the past 8 years on the Berwyn Park District Board of Commissioners. She is looking forward to leading the Park District to becoming a recreation destination for Berwyn residents and putting Berwyn Parks on the map as a destination location for all visitors.
